Spring 2009
Dear WPHIMSS Colleague,
It is that time that we elect the chapter leadership for the 2009-2010 year.
A number of initiatives have been accomplished this year. These activities could not have been made possible without the hard work of the WPHIMSS Board of Directors and members of the various committees, and it is important to select candidates who will lead in their succession.
The Nominating Committee has recruited highly qualified candidates. They represent years of leadership experience and chapter involvement. Please take a few quick moments to vote on the incoming Board of Directors and let your voice be heard.

I would like to highlight some of the accomplishments in 2008-09.
Most recently, we held the Second Annual PA Healthcare IT Advocacy Day in early May. This year we incorporated an HIT Solutions Showcase on the first day of the two day event, sponsored by PAeHI and HIMSS. With approximately 130 in attendance, and the feedback we received, the event was a great success and we look forward to planning the third Annual PA Healthcare IT Advocacy Day in the upcoming year.
In addition, we held 2 other programs including the Pulse of Healthcare Winter event invite where four presenters, each with a different perspective on Healthcare and its future in Western PA, offered their expertise in presentations followed by a panel discussion. We also held the 2nd Annual NE Health IT Trade Faire. We are discussing plans to hold the 3rd Annual NE HIT Trade Faire in the fall of 2009 and we welcome your input and suggestions to improve the overall event. As always, you are invited to become an active volunteer. If getting involved in Trade Faire planning interests you please contact me directly at jpojedinec@gmail.com.
The Chapter has been engaged in new member recruitment and member retention. The latest numbers show that we have about 308 members. We introduced a Retiree Membership Benefit which provides a reduced program registration fee, equivalent to the student rate, of $10.00. If you are a retired member please take advantage of this opportunity and keep your eyes peeled for additional retiree benefits.
We are looking forward to another successful year and need your help in selecting the leaders to guide the chapter. Please take a few quick moments to vote on the incoming Board of Directors.
